The Department of Natural Resources in cooperation with the South Haven Steelheaders welcomed 250,000 King Salmon fingerlings earlier this month. The six-month-old fingerlings were put in cages placed in the Black River near the South Haven Yacht Club where for two weeks they’ll be fed by the Steelheaders while acclimating to the river water temperature. They’ll then be released. In about two years they’ll be sought-after by anglers. The photo above shows the fingerlings being released. The photo below shows military veterans bringing back salmon and trout they caught in Lake Michigan during the annual Salute to Veterans event in August of 2023.
